Path of Exile 2 currently has 8 classes and 22 ascendancies (Patch 0.5.4b, Runes of Aldur league). Some ascendancies clearly outperform others right now — here's the honest breakdown.

Heads up: this meta shifts with every patch. Treat this as "what's strong this patch," not a permanent ranking.

S Tier — strongest right now

Deadeye (Ranger) — Its Snipe skill can delete bosses when built right, and it's also one of the best classes for clearing maps fast. Beginner-friendly and very strong at the same time, which is rare.

Witchhunter — Comes online fast and scales well, making it one of the best league-start picks if you want to be strong early without a steep learning curve.

Stormweaver (Sorceress) — The best boss killer in the game right now thanks to its Archmage Spark build, though it takes more setup than Deadeye.

A Tier — strong, more setup required

Infernalist and Chronomancer — both have a high skill ceiling and reward players who already know the game. Great second or third character, not the easiest starting pick.

B Tier — solid, unspectacular

Most remaining ascendancies fall here — perfectly playable and capable of clearing endgame content, just without a standout strength that puts them above the rest.

C Tier — needs balance help

Warbringer (Warrior) — its warcry-based totem playstyle currently feels weaker than what other classes get for free. Fine for maps, inconsistent against bosses.

Blood Mage — not recommended for a fresh account right now; needs more investment to feel strong than its current payoff justifies.

Night Tier verdict

New to PoE2? Start with Deadeye or Witchhunter — both are strong and easy to learn. Already know the game? Stormweaver, Infernalist, or Chronomancer reward the extra effort.
